「turn out to be ～」で「～であるとわかる」という意味。予想外の結果によく使う。
→ turned out to be = 結局～だった - 'After asking an expert, he learned it was valuable.'
動名詞（～ing）の前に 'after' を置くことで「～した後で」。主語は文全体から分かる。
→ After asking ＝ 質問したあとで - 'This event shows that valuable things can be found in unexpected places.'
「show that ～」で「～ということを示す」。'can be found' は受け身の助動詞の形。
→ valuable things can be found = 貴重なものは見つかる可能性がある
